Styling Tips for your Mini Fashionista

We all see those adorable insta-babies, and mommy bloggers with their super stylish kids, and we often wonder- Where do they find the time?!
These moms are skilled in finding the best fashions, right on trend, and somehow capture their daughters in their finest moments to share with the world. Don’t worry moms; if you have a daughter who loves playing dress up, or one who has been carrying around a purse since she was 1, we’re here to help you achieve her wildest fashion goals.

How-To:
  • Consider her personality- Is she quiet and reserved? Bright and bubbly?  A mini-mommy? If your daughter is more on the reserved side, consider choosing more neutral or calming colors like ivory, blush, light violet, pale blue. If she’s bright and bubbly- pick colors that match her persona- she’ll shine even brighter in neons, or bold prints! The mini-mommy has a taste for sophistication, and she aspires to be just like you- pick simple bodies, interesting fabric textures, black and white, and pops of color.
  • Accessorize- No outfit is complete without an accessory! If she’s wearing a loud dress, choose a simple hair bow or headband, and matching shoes. If her style is more neutral, having a bolder hair accessory and/or a pair of fabulous shoes is the way to go. If ever you don’t have a matching accessory or pair of shoes- go neutral, it’s always in style.
  • Get her input- If she’s old enough, let her guide you. Sometimes it can be really fun to let her put together her own outfit. She may end up looking a little wild, but she’s developing her own personal style, and that is what makes her so special. Of course, if you are going to any type of event, it’s probably best that you are the stylist!

Now that we have the basics down, let’s talk trends.  Our team at Girls Dress Shop is here to make sure you are up on the latest kid’s fashion fads so your daughter can express herself with the latest style. With eachs post, we will include some Style Boards that pair fabulous shoes and accessories from around the web with some of our favorite dresses- your life just got so much easier!

Trend: The Updated Bohemian

The 70’s are back across spring and summer runways with designers like Valentino, Pucci, and Etro showing fringe tops, caftans, and flowing tunic dresses.  We love the bold color pallets and the funky fringe inspired by this era but aren’t too crazy about the concept of cleaning Playdough out of a camel hair vest.  The trick to making this look accessible and wearable for your daughter is to pair a classic silhouette with a bohemian inspired print or accessory.  Plus, how can you go wrong when flower crowns are involved?

Girls Dress Shop Style BoardOur first look adds a Bohemian flair to the Aria Maxi Dress.  The maxi’s crochet bodice paired with fringe shoes and a floral headband provides just the right amount of funky, fun style. Find this headband at RosesandLemons and you can find these adorable Reese shoes at Joyfolie

This boho-chic inspired maxi with its high-low silhouette, lace trim, and bright floral print is a great staple for your daughter’s summer wardrobe.  Adding an understated braided wedge and a classic headpiece keeps the look cute and easy, instead of full-blown “flower power”.Girls Dress Shop Style BoardThe updated bohemian still trending into the fall so you’re good to use your daughter’s favorite new hippie apparel when planning her back to school wardrobe.  She can strut the halls with confidence knowing she is on trend and you can show off your “cool-mom” status with back to school pics that will rival those mini-fashionista instragrams! You can find these shoes at Nina NY and you can find this fabulous headband at LoveMiaKids
